SUMMARY:Publieke Pioniers: How can AI sustain us?
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday October 9th\, VPRO Medialab will host the event Publieke Pioniers: How can AI sustain us? \nLike other sectors in industry and society\, public broadcasters face the challenge of becoming more sustainable and reducing their ecological footprint. What if we tackle this challenge head-on and begin the transformation at the very core of the media ecosystem? What would radically sustainable public media look like? What opportunities does artificial intelligence\, Gen or otherwise\, offer? \nPublic broadcasters are already working on sustainability through tools like Albert\, which calculates the carbon footprint of a production. This is a good start\, but the tool introduces sustainability considerations relatively late in the traditional media production process\, where maintaining quality and journalistic integrity remains paramount. Moreover\, the entire ecosystem of public media has shifted with the rise of social media and again with the rapid growth of AI. It’s time to engage everyone and explore new possibilities\, formats\, and platforms where sustainability is a core value… sustainability by design in the media. \nDuring this session\, everyone can come together and explore how public broadcasters can use AI to become more sustainable. \nAs a part of this programme\, Society 5.0 Festival will also host a two-day Hackathon by VPRO Medialab on 9th and 10th October\, where students will dive into this topic and hack their own solutions. \nThis event is  Dutch spoken

DESCRIPTION:It is expected that within the next few years 95% of media content with be fully or partially synthetic\, produced with generative AI. What does it mean when media no longer represent but generate reality? Is there such a thing as Synthetic Truth? How do we retain a shared reality when everyone can instantly generate their own version? \nGenerative tools like ChatGPT\, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion enable not only professional creators to push creative boundaries\, but also “those formerly known as the audience. In Public Pioneers #3\, we therefore focus on the creative triangle between professional media creators\, public AI pioneers and Generative AI tools as a third entity. Together we explore how generative AI can be used to tell new stories\, and get a better grip on creative uses of synthetic media. Synthetic media for good. \nTwo day hackathon in Beeld & Geluid in Den Haag \nOn November 29 and 30\, the VPRO Medialab in collaboration with NPO Innovation\, trainees from the Digital Society School and Beeld & Geluid in Den Haag will dive into the synthetic world of Generative AI. Are you a media-maker/podcaster/artist/designer/AI-coder/TikTokker/thinker/doer … sign up for the two-day hackathon Public Pioneers#3: Keeping it Real. \nUnder the guidance of our coaches\, participants will work on concepts and prototypes in about six teams to pitch them in the Open Demos at the end of the second day.
